Eating Out

HERMANUS RESTAURANTS

Hermanus – Stepping into the limelight for culinary excellence

From Hermanus to the Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Valley, there is a massive offering of surprisingly magnificent restaurants and eateries in this area to choose from.

IN AND AROUND HERMANUS

FISHERMAN’S COTTAGE

As its name implies, this authentic 19th-century cottage specialises in the ocean’s bounty. Although most renowned for its gigantic seafood platters, there is also an extensive menu. Sit outside on the wooden benches when the sun’s out, or inside the cosy interior on chilly evenings – decked with colourful paraffin lanterns and seaside antiques.

THE GALLERY CAFÉ

This has been the ‘number 1’ in Hermanus for some time now and is well worth a visit. This self-proclaimed “lifestyle” eatery is situated in the tranquil and idyllic courtyard of the Walkerbay Art Gallery. With a largely plant-based menu, the produce is seasonal, mostly organic, and locally source. This hidden gem is the ultimate casual dining experience, with food that surpasses expectations.

BURGUNDY SEAFRONT RESTAURANT

On the edge of the bay and only a few metres away from the historic old harbour, Burgundy Restaurant offers front-row seats to the greatest whale show on earth – with a tasty extensive home cooked menu, guests are spoilt with great food and the majesty of dancing nearby whales in season.

CHAR’D GRILL

This is no ordinary steakhouse; through design and technology, this is a sassy and sophisticated fantasy world. The meat is supplied by local artisan butchers who advocate using as much of the animal as possible, resulting in alternative cuts no longer flying under the radar which presents diners with a whole new culinary experience.

In The Hemel-En-Aarde Wine Valley

CREATION WINES TASTING ROOM & RESTAURANT

Creation Wines is arguably the leader in the valley, with its restaurant offering unusual wine-and-food pairings, as well a superb menu that changes weekly to keep things fresh and exciting. Whatever you chose you will have exceptional wine and excellent food.

MOGGS COUNTRY COOKHOUSE

For wholesome family-run country cooking in a delightful rural setting, this is a must. Using only fresh farm produce, everything is homemade, fresh to order. Open for lunch only.

THE RESTAURANT AT NEWTON JOHNSON

The restaurant is modern and brings the freshest produce, finest wines and views together to create an unforgettable experience. The chef is a forager so guests can expect fresh and exciting, seasonally driven meals at this chic eatery.

SPOOKFONTEIN

Overlooking a series of towering Cape-fold mountains and between fynbos-clad hills and manicured vines, lies a culinary destination beckoning both food & wine enthusiasts.  Chef Charl and owners Vaughan and Fancois pursue the perfect combination between modern food preparation and classic elegance that has come to be their trademark.
